150 Attend Prayer Vigil To Remember Charleston Shooting Victims

About 150 people attended a Prayer Vigil Service on Tuesday to remember the victims of the Charleston, SC shooting.

The hour long service, for the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, was held at the St. Peter Church of Christ on East Massey Street in Smithfield, and sponsored by the Johnston African American Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. 

The theme of the vigil was “Love One Another, Only Love Can Conquer Hate.”

Speakers included Dr. J.B. Woodhouse, President of the Johnston African American Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, Bishop R.W. Johnson from St. Peter Church of Christ, Police Chief Michael Scott, School Superintendent Dr. Ed Croom, County Commissioner Chairman Tony Braswell, Town Councilman Marlon Lee, and Tony Nixon from the East Smithfield Improvement Organization. 

The St. Peter Church Praise Team lead the attendees in music and concluded the ceremony with the song We Shall Overcome.
