Johnston County officials said an estimated 250,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled on Sunday from a force main located on Cornwallis Road at the Swift Creek crossing. The spill was caused by a break in a pipeline.
The untreated wastewater was discharged into Swift Creek.
The NC Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on Monday and is reviewing the incident.
