6,200 Gallon Sewage Spill Reported In Selma

The Town of Selma said approximately 6,200 gallons of wastewater spilled from a force main pipe on US 70 Highway on Sunday. The spill lasted about 9 hours.

The sewage was released into a wooded floodplain area.  Officials said everything was done to minimize the spill once it was discovered.

About 1,000 gallons of the spilled wastewater was recovered.

The incident was blamed on a pipe failure. The spill has been reported to the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources Division of Water Resources.
