A 77 year-old Johnston County man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 40 year-old woman at his home.
Kenly Police Chief Josh Gibson said officers responded to 405 W. Watkins Street Tuesday night.
The victim, Dana Massello of Kenly, had been shot in the arm with a 22 caliber handgun. Chief Gibson said Massello had placed her arm in front of her face prior to the suspect pulling the trigger, otherwise she would have been struck in the head.
Massello was transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The suspect, George Patrick Foster, 77, was arrested at his home without incident and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
The victim and suspect were described as acquaintances.
Chief Gibson said a motive for the shooting remains under investigation. The weapon used in the shooting has been recovered by officers.
Foster is currently free on $25,000 bond.
