8,600 Pounds Of Documents Shredded

A total of 8,600 pounds of personal documents were shredded on Saturday during the annual Johnston County Register of Deeds Shred Event. The event was held in the Shred Event - 2015
parking lot of Edwards IGA in Smithfield.

Register of Deeds Craig Olive called it a “great success.” About 550 people turned out to dispose of old tax returns, cancelled checks, credit card statements and other personal data as a way to prevent identity theft.

Olive said the turnout was so great, it took 5-1/2 hours for everyone to be accommodated. The event had originally been planned for only 4 hours.

Olive thanked the co-sponsors of the event, WTSB Radio AM-1090, WMPM Radio AM-1270, Edwards IGA, Hinson’s Printing, and AIS.
