Cleveland High Senior Named Dell Scholar

Cleveland High School senior Ray Parker has been named a 2015 Dell Scholar, which includes a scholarship worth $20,000.

The Dell Scholars program, an initiative of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, recognizes students who have overcome significant obstacles to pursue their educations. In turn, these scholars serve as positive role models and change the trajectories for their families, friends and their communities.

Dell Scholars must have participated in an approved college readiness program in grades 11 and 12, such as Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). Only 300 scholarships are awarded annually nationwide.

In addition to the $20,000 scholarship, Parker will receive a laptop, textbook credits, and ongoing support and assistance to address all of the emotional, lifestyle, and financial challenges that may arise in college.

Parker is a member of the Cleveland High School AVID program. He has also participated in track, cheerleading, and step team during his time at Cleveland. He plans attend East Carolina University in the fall.
