A Johnston County deputy had to struggle with a man armed with a gun outside the Johnston County Courthouse.
Around 5:00am Sunday, a deputy and jail staff were asked to break up a large gathering of people outside the Second Street entrance to the Johnston County Jail.
While asking the individuals to disperse, the officer said he spotted a 40 caliber Glock handgun in the possession of Erick Galeana-Piedra of Henderson.
Galeana-Piedra refused to drop the gun. The deputy and the suspect struggled over the weapon until the officer was able to forcibly disarm the man.
The suspect was charged with possession of a weapon on courthouse property, carrying a concealed gun and concealing a gun after consuming alcohol. He was jailed under a $25,000 bond.
Authorities did not disclose why Galeana-Piedra was at the courthouse but said he was among the crowd of people who had gathered.
