A driver who got the attention of a Johnston County deputy Tuesday afternoon quickly ended up in handcuffs.
Around 5:50pm, a deputy sheriff was stopped at Highway 50 and Stephenson Road near Benson when he spotted a car quickly approach the intersection. At the last second, the driver applied the brakes and skidded into the intersection.
Several other motorists had to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle.
During a traffic stop on Highway 50, the officer detected an odor of alcohol.
Harold Ray Williford Jr., 49, of N Zeb Street, Coats was arrested for driving while impaired. Williford refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.
He was given a $3,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail.
