Former Band Booster President Arrested For Embezzlement

Following a two month criminal investigation, the former president of the Band Booster organization at South Johnston High School has been arrested on embezzlement charges.

Myra Goins Padilla, 50, of E. Benton Street, Benson was arrestedFriday afternoon and charged with 5 felony counts of embezzlement, one for each month she allegedly stole money from the non-profit organization between August and December 2016.

Padilla is accused of using band booster funds, which were suppose to support the high school band, to pay for approximately $4,500 in personal items, primarily household goods she purchased over the 5 month period.

Authorities said Padilla wrote herself checks and also used a debit card belonging to the booster club to make multiple transactions.

Padilla was given a $100,000 bond on the 5 felony charges.
