Johnston County 911 Director Jason Barbour has announced residents can now text emergencies to the 911 Center.

Citizens can now text their calls for help.

Johnston County 911 Emergency Communications has implemented texting to 911.  All of the equipment upgrades and circuitry have now been done to enable the 911 Center to receive text messages.

Citizens needing to text a call for help can now simply text their message to “911”.  Even with this feature, people are still encouraged to call 911 if at all possible.  While the texting service is available in Johnston County, it has not been implemented in all parts of North Carolina.

“We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to ensure that our citizens can reach the help they need whenever they need it,” said Johnston County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Director Jason Barbour. “We are thankful that all of the major wireless carriers assisted us in making this feature available to our citizens.”
