Johnston Student Linked To Threat Against Pender County School

A Johnston County high school student was arrested Wednesday for allegedly making a threat on social media against a high school in Pender County.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said they were contacted by the Pender County Sheriff’s Office after a school resource officer at Topsail High School in Hampstead were alerted by a concerned parent about the alleged social media post.

Zachery James Kroeger, 16, of Prosperity Court, Angier, a student at West Johnston High near Benson, allegedly posted a comment on social media he would shoot up Topsail High.  During questioning by Johnston County authorities, Kroeger allegedly admitted to making the post but claimed it was a joke.

Kroeger was charged with making a false report of mass violence on educational property. He was booked into the Johnston County Jail Wednesday afternoon under a $20,000 bond.

Officials did not disclose any alleged connection between Kroeger and the Pender County school.
