Man Charged With Assaulting Four Oaks Police Officer, Drug Possession

Four Oaks Police seized heroin, cocaine and marijuana following an incident that began at McDonald’s on US 301.

On March 12th, police responded to a report of a suspicious person. Officers made contact with 45 year-old Reginald Lee Murphy. While being questioned, Murphy allegedly reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a package which was later determined to contain narcotics.

Police attempted to handcuff Murphy however he shoved the officer, attempted to punch him, then fled on foot.  Following a brief foot pursuit, Murphy was detained.

The package he removed from his coat pocket allegedly contained 26 bundles of heroin, one gram of powder cocaine and a marijuana cigarette.   Murphy was jailed under a $50,000 bond on numerous charges including assault on a government officials, obstructing and delaying, and drug possession.

The officer involved in the incident was not injured.
