A man police said was wearing a backpack filled with drugs valued at more than $3,300 claimed it wasn’t his.
Last Thursday morning a Selma police officer noticed a man wearing a backpack on West Watson Street, an area that has seen an increased number of residential break-ins.
The officer stopped the individual to see if he was carrying any burglary tools in the backpack.
Inside the backpack, officers found a large amount of heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
Dominick Shakur McFarland, 23, of Ray Drive, Smithfield allegedly told officers the backpack was not his. He claimed a relative left it at a convenience store and he was carrying it to their home.
McFarland was charged with trafficking a controlled substance. Bail was set at $80,000.
