Man Killed Fleeing From Police

Accident I95 96 3Selma Police and the NC Highway Patrol are still investigating details surrounding a deadly chase Tuesday night. It began on Ricks Road in Selma and ended on I-95 minutes later with the suspect deceased.

Police said they attempted to stop the driver of a red Nissan pickup for running a red light on Ricks Road at US70 at 8:42pm.  The vehicle turned onto I-95 southbound where the driver failed to stop. Suddenly, while in front of the Carolina Premium Outlet Center, the suspect stopped his truck next to the southbound lanes, jumped out and began running. While trying to cross the northbound lanes, the man was struck and killed by a tractor trailer.

The deceased man was identified Wednesday as 22 year-old Mark Malloy of Shaverton, Pennsylvania.  The driver of the tractor trailer, Antonio Oliveras, 45, of Florida was not injured.

Accident I95 96 2Selma Police Captain R.L. Daniels said a search warrant was conducted on Malloy’s truck on Wednesday and no evidence was found to indicate why he might have wanted to flee from police.
