No Charges In Fatal Nightclub Shooting

Selma Police announced Thursday that no charges would be filed following a deadly weekend shooting at a local nightclub.

Around 2:00am Saturday, Roderick Nathaniel Davis, 35, of Erwin walked up to a vehicle occupied by four people in the parking lot of the Rumba Club on US 301 South near the Smithfield city limits.  Davis reportedly opened fire on the driver striking him twice.

One of the passengers in the vehicle returned fire fatally wounding Davis. Davis was found lying on the ground next to the vehicle when police arrived. He was rushed to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield but died as a result of the gunshot wounds.

The driver who was shot twice was rushed to Wake Medical Center where in stable condition they are still recovering. The individuals name was not released.

Police Captain R.L. Daniels said the shooting stemmed from an earlier incident in Harnett County.  Some of the parties involved were gang members but Captain Daniels said detectives could not prove the shooting was gang related.

After reviewing the case with the District Attorney’s Office, officials announced Thursday that no charges would be filed.
