Newton Grove Police are looking for two men who tried to rob the First Citizens Bank Thursday morning.

Shortly after the bank opened for business, Police Chief Frankie Harrell said a vehicle backed up to the entrance door, and two black males armed with handguns got out of the vehicle. Before they could reach the bank, they saw a customer exiting the bank, and turned around and got back into their vehicle.

Chief Harrell said the suspects then attempted to enter the bank a second time but again saw a bank customer and returned to their car and fled.

Police said the suspects fled in a black four door passenger car with chrome rims and chrome over the fender wells.  A license plate on the vehicle had been reported stolen from a vehicle parked nearby at Food Lion.

Police believe the suspects stole the license plate before attempting the robbery.

The suspects were both wearing dark clothing. One had his face concealed with a black ski mask, the other with a hard plastic mask.

The suspects were last seen fleeing on US 701 towards Johnston County.
