It’s not every day someone gets a Key to the City.  That recognition is saved for a select few people.  On Tuesday night, the Selma Town Council honored Sammie Collier who recently retired after nearly 33 years in business at Collier Car Care on South Pollock Street (US301).

Mayor Cheryl Oliver presented Collier with a honorary Key to the City along with a plaque with a poem entitled Some People.

Mayor Oliver said Collier, 71, not only cared about the vehicles his customers drove but he also cared about the people and their families.  Collier said it was easy to leave his business but no easy to leave his many friends.

“It’s been a pleasure. I appreciate the business,” Collier said after receiving the recognition. “I’ve tried to do right.”
