Smithfield Police helped solved a break-in that had not even been reported when an officer conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday.
Police arrested Ashley Taheisha Locklear, 25, of Red Springs on an outstanding warrant during the vehicle stop. Officers checked the identities of two others in the car but were released.
A short time later, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was called to a break-in outside of Kenly and just inside Wayne County. Some of the items stolen in the break-in were in the vehicle previously stopped by Smithfield Police.
Locklear was subsequently charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. Warrants have been obtained for two other suspects: Bradley Wayne Locklear, 19, and Kevin Earl Lowery, 28, both of Red Springs in Robeson County.
