Suspect Charged With Second High Speed Pursuit In 6 Years

A man convicted 6 years ago for fleeing from Wake County authorities has been arrested following a brief high speed chase in Johnston County.

Last Friday, a Johnston County deputy attempted to stop a car near the I-40 / NC42 interchange but the driver refused to pull over. The suspect quickly accelerated to speeds of 90mph on Highway 42 eastbound towards Clayton.

Due to the suspect’s erratic driving, the officer was unable to keep up with the vehicle and ended the chase when he lost sight of the car on Highway 42 near Cornwallis Road. However, deputies were able to identify the operator of the vehicle.

On Monday, Cortez D’Angelo Scarboro of Wendell was arrested. Scarboro was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving, resisting a public officer and speeding.

Scarboro was convicted of felony speeding to elude arrest following an incident in Wake County in August 2011. He received probation for the offense, according to the NC Department of Corrections website.
