Last week, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said goodbye to two longtime officers.  Lt. Gary Bridges and Detective Kevin Massengill retired on Friday. They were honored during a retired luncheon last Thursday at Holt Lake Barbecue.

Lt. Bridges started work with the sheriff’s office in April 1998. His first job was a courtroom deputy. He was later assigned to the patrol division, promoted to sergeant, and since May 2003 had been lieutenant of a patrol squad.

Massengill worked his way up the ranks starting in March 1987 as a dispatcher under former Sheriff Freddy Narron. He was promoted to communications supervisor, reserve deputy, deputy sheriff, patrol lieutenant, then to detective.

“I want to personally thank Gary and Kevin for their many years of dedicated service, and especially their commitment and unwavering support to me as Sheriff over the years,” Sheriff Steve Bizzell said. “These deputies went above and beyond the call of duty, serving on specialty teams and always being available when needed. They served our county well.
