Woman Robbed Leaving Smithfield Business

A 32 year-old woman said she was robbed while leaving a Smithfield business.

Police Captain R. Sheppard said the victim was leaving a hair salon on South Third Street and walking to her car when the suspect approached and hit her in the head with his fist.  After being knocked to the ground the suspect took the woman’s watch and $100 in cash. The suspect was armed with a box cutter style knife.  After taking the items he fled on foot.

The victim was able to get into her vehicle and flee from the scene. She did not require medical treatment.  Police said this happened around 10:00pm Thursday.

Smithfield Police described the suspect as a black male, 5 foot 10 to 6 foot 1 with a slender build. He was wearing a dark color hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Smithfield Police at 919-934-2121 or the Smithfield Police Tip Line at 919-989-8835.

It would be helpful if you could tell us the salon where this occurred. Several salons are located on Third St. One of which is operated by my niece. Upon reading this vague story i was naturally concerned it occurred at her establishment, as I’m sure her customers were as well. It would be very helpful, to many, if initially you gave us the entire story. Thankfully this did not occur at her business. But i do feel for whomever this happened too. Clarity would be beneficial for all concerned. I hope the perpetrator is apprehended soon. It is comforting to know that my nieces business is in a safe well lit location.
