SELMA – Selma Police seized 17.3 pounds of suspected marijuana and $2,943 in cash after being called to a local hotel Friday afternoon. Police were dispatched to the LaQuinta Hotel on Outlet Center Drive for a report a patron who rented a non-smoking room was smoking marijuana in the room and refused to leave.
Officers arrived at the third-floor room and encountered two people. One person fled down a stairwell and escaped. A second person, identified as Toribio Samuel, 45, of Brooklyn, NY, allegedly had several packages of marijuana in plain sight in the room.
Police reportedly seized 3 packages of marijuana on a desk, 13 packages in a black duffel bag, drug paraphernalia and cash. A search of Samuel’s rental car yielded a small amount of marijuana.
Samuel was charged with trafficking marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $50,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail.
