$19.84 Theft Results In Felony Charge

A Selma man who allegedly shoplifted a $19.84 Fram air filter from a business is facing a felony charge.

Around 9:30pm last Thursday, Smithfield Police responded to Wal-mart on N. Brightleaf Boulevard for a shoplifting report.  Police allege 51 year-old Michael Clarence Nesbitt of S. Raiford Street attempted to leave without paying for an air filter.

Nesbitt has a lengthy arrest record including prior convictions for larceny.   He was charged by police with felony habitual larceny, misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor trespassing.  He was given a $20,000 bond on the charges.

According to the NC Department of Public Safety website, Nesbitt also has prior felony convictions for breaking and entering motor vehicles, speeding to elude arrest and narcotics possession.
