CLAYTON – A teen driver was arrested Tuesday after he reportedly led several Johnston County deputies on a high speed chase. It started around 7:05pm when a patrol deputy attempted to stop the operator of a gold Chevrolet Impala on Grill Road for a violation.
The driver pulled onto the shoulder of Grill Road and stopped. As the deputy began exiting his patrol car the suspect sped away. The pursuit turned onto several secondary roads, at times reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour.
At the intersection of Cleveland Road and Cornwallis Road, the driver stopped the car and surrendered.
Kha’lil Nasir Cameron of Lillington, NC was taken into custody without further incident. During a search of the Impala, officers said they found a 9mm handgun in the glove box.
Cameron was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon. Cameron was confined under a $15,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail.
His vehicle was seized under the NC Run and You’re Done Law.
