Two people have been arrested and authorities continue to look for one additional suspect who allegedly shoplifted $1,170 in merchandise from the Cleveland Walmart.
Walmart Loss Prevention personnel said a man and a woman came inside the store around 6:00pm Saturday and filled two carts with merchandise. While the female distracted a cashier in the garden center, the male suspect pushed a cart out of the store without paying. The female then left with her shopping cart without paying.
A third suspect was waiting outside in a car. They quickly loaded up the stolen merchandise and left the parking lot.
Johnston County deputies said a 55 inch flat screen TV, Keurig coffee maker, Serta mattress pad, pots and pans, and a case of Corona beer were stolen. Deputies put out an alert to surrounding law enforcement agencies to look for the vehicle. Early Sunday morning an alert Smithfield police officer spotted the car in a parking space at a motel on Mallard Road.
Deputies and police said they found 34 year-old Crystal Dawn Morrison of Smithfield in the room along with numerous empty Corona beer cans. At first, Morrison reportedly denied being at the Cleveland Walmart but later changed her story and confessed after being unable to produce a receipt for some of the stolen items found in the backseat of the car.
Crystal Morrison and a second suspect, 19 year-old Demonte Rasheem Morrison of Brogden Road, Smithfield were both charged on Monday with felony larceny and felony conspiracy. Deputies are following up on leads in their search for the third suspect.
