2 Year-Old Seriously Injured In Crash After Father Flees From Law Enforcement


NASH COUNTY – A two year-old child was seriously injured Wednesday during a three-county high speed chase. The child, at last report, remains hospitalized at WakeMed.

Around 12:45pm, deputies with the Nash County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and officers with the Nashville Police Department were conducting a traffic checking station on Taylors Store Road and Red Road near Nashville. A white Honda Accord with dark tinted windows approached the checking station and performed an illegal turn in the middle of Taylor’s Store Road.

Deputies attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, however, the driver of the Honda proceeded down Taylor’s Store Road at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for the blue lights. The vehicle pursuit continued through several side roads and then onto US 64 westbound.

The pursuit continued on US 64 into Franklin and Wake Counties at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle passed NC 96 near Zebulon the suspect swerved to avoid a tire deflation device, struck the front end of another vehicle, and ran onto the shoulder, before re-entering the roadway. The Honda has slowed enough for Nash County deputies to conduct a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to bring the pursuit to a stop. The Honda came to rest against a tree.

With the assistance of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Nashville Police Department, Zebulon Police Department and Wake County Sheriff’s Office the driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle without further incident.

Officers located a two-year-old child in the back seat secured in a car seat. The child was immediately removed from the Honda and rushed by EMS to Wake Medical Center. The driver was the father of the child.

The driver and passenger were also transported to Wake Medical Center for minor injuries and later released.

A search of the Honda Accord reportedly revealed a short barrel assault rifle, which is a weapon of mass destruction, loaded rifle magazines, a semi-automatic pistol with a 50 round barrel magazine and other extended magazines, narcotic pills, and cocaine.

The driver, identified as Chiali Alijuwon Bunn, age 28, of Autry Road, Rocky Mount had nine outstanding warrants from Nash and Johnston Counties, including four felony charges. Authorities said Bunn is a convicted felon and is currently on probation and listed as an absconder from Probation & Parole.

Bunn was charged with Felony Speeding to Elude, Careless and Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane Control, Illegal Passing, Felony Child Abuse, Possession of Firearm by Felon, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Possession of Weapon of Mass Destruction, Possession with Intent to Sale and Deliver, Maintain a vehicle for Sale and Deliver of Narcotics along with 9 outstanding warrants to included Felony Speed to Elude, Felony Possession of Marijuana and Probation violation. Bunn was placed in the Nash County Detention Center and received a $379,000 bond.

The passenger, identified as Genaro Eddie Padin, age 20, of Winters Road, Bailey. had an outstanding felony warrant in Wake County. Padin was charged with Carrying Concealed Weapon, Possession of Weapon of Mass Destruction, Possession with Intent to Sale and Deliver Narcotics, Maintain a vehicle for Sale and Deliver of narcotics and outstanding warrant out of Wake County for Uttering a Forged Instrument. Padin was placed in the Nash County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.

Deputies said Bunn and Padin had lengthy criminal records and were in possession of weapons capable of mass casualty. The Nash County Sheriff’s Office said they will work with the District Attorney’s Office for any additional charges.

  1. Certainly hope they get thrown in jail for a long time. Or just go ahead and send them 6 ft under. So tired of all these criminals being on the streets to conduct further damage to our civilization. Thankful the little child is away from such a horrible father. Wonder what kind of mother would be involved with such a loser and allow her child to be in the car with the two thugs and their array of criminal objects. Criminals creating a new generation of criminals and the cycle continues….
