Three people were arrested during two unrelated drug investigations at the same Smithfield hotel.
An agent with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division was on patrol Thursday and reportedly witnessed a hand-to-hand drug deal in the parking lot of the Best Value Inn on Mallard Road. The officer got behind a SUV driven by one of the suspects and conducted a traffic stop. During a search of the vehicle a 40 caliber handgun, 2 grams of cocaine, 2.9 grams of meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were reportedly found.
Gabriel Escalera, 32, of Kenan Weeks Road, Newton Grove was arrested on multiple offenses including possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was placed in the Johnston County Jail under a $150,000 bond.
On Friday, agents searched a room at the Best Value Inn and allegedly seized a small quantity of heroin and cocaine. Two men, Tony Randall McCumbers, 32, of Lyons, Georgia and Mark Harrison Grimes, 33, of Glennville, Georgia were charged with possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver heroin. Grimes was also charged with possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver cocaine. McCumbers was held under a $50,000 bond. Grimes was held under a $100,000 bond.
