Late-Thursday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office formally charged two additional suspects with murder and robbery in the fatal shooting of a 23 year-old man. The victim, Joseph Shane Bowling of Angier, was gunned down during the Nov. 14th robbery of the Scotchman convenience store at 12320 Highway, 210, Benson near the I-40 intersection.
A total of 3 suspects have now been charged with murder and robbery. Two of the 3 are in custody.
The first suspect, Bobby Gene McLean Jr., 19, from Selma surrendered to detectives Thursday at the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Manuel Jamie Patterson, 19, of Kenly was captured Wednesday in Fayetteville and returned to Johnston County where he was formally charged with the Nov. 12th robbery of Reedy Creek Gas & Grocery / Safeway at 9891 Highway 210, Four Oaks. While in custody at the Johnston County Jail on Thursday, Patterson was served with warrants charging him with murder, robbery, and conspiracy.
Both McLean and Patterson are being held in the Johnston County Jail without bond.
Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said a third suspect, John Wesley Pettiway III, 21, of Selma is still at large. Warrants have been obtained for his arrest. Once located, Pettiway will also be charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy.
