3rd Defendant In Cole Thomas Case Released From Jail

A third person charged with concealing the death of Cole Thomas of Florida who disappeared 16 months ago has been released from jail.

Following a bond reduction hearing in Johnston County Superior Court on Tuesday, Chief Resident Superior Court Judge Tom Lock lowered the bond for Anthony Ridell James Jr. of Mt. Olive from $30,000 to $3,000.   Bond for Jeremy Carpenter of Minnesota was lowered from $500,000 to $75,000.

Carpenter later posted his bond.  As of Wednesday afternoon, James was still being held in the Johnston County Jail under the $3,000 bond.

In January, Julian Valles Jr. of Dudley and Rudolfo DeLeon Jr. of Mt. Olive were released after their bonds were also reduced.

Thomas was last seen on Nov. 25, 2016 in Downtown Benson.  Prosecutors announced in court recently they are treating his disappearance as a homicide although his body has never been located. The four suspects are charged with concealment of a death.
