The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 7 teenagers in connection with Friday’s incident at West Johnston High School on Raleigh Road near Benson.
Around 11:00am, the seven individuals went to the school on the pretense of picking up a West Johnston student. They were confronted by school staff and a Johnston County sheriff’s office school resource officer.
Several of the individuals failed to comply with the resource officers commands and continued moving into the school, according to Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell.
Following a brief struggle, the resource officer was able to detain 4 of the individuals while the 3 others fled on foot.
As a precaution the school was placed on lockdown as additional law enforcement officers responded to the scene to assist the resource officer secure the campus and look for the 3 persons who fled.
The 3 suspects were located less than an hour later and detained. No weapon was located on any of the seven suspects.
Four of the suspects are juveniles ages 14 and 15. They are facing second degree trespassing charges and because of their ages were issued juvenile petitions and were released into the custody of their parents Friday afternoon.
The other three were identified as Joel Luna-Bernal, 16; Jay Anthony Contrereas, 17; and Luis Daniel Garay, 16, all of Raleigh. They were taken before a magistrate and given a $50,000 bond each before being booked into the Johnston County Jail.
The incident involving the 7 individuals is still ongoing.
