Nearly four pounds of heroin with a street value of $807,000 was found in a pillow in the trunk of a car stopped on Interstate 95 in Nash County on Monday.
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Team stopped a black Cadillac for a traffic violation in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the 134 mile marker. Officers said they became suspicious of the occupants in the car. Marijuana residue was in plain sight on the front passenger flood board. A drug K-9 also alerted on the vehicle.
During a search, 3.89 pounds of heroin was located inside a pillow in the trunk. This was equivalent to approximately 40,350 doses of heroin.
Agents said this is the largest heroin seizure in Nash County History.
The driver, Luis Gonzales, 31, and two passengers, Carlos Hernandez Romero, 33, and Valentin Bermudez Pineda, 31, were arrested on heroin trafficking charges and jailed under a $750,000 bond each.
