Smithfield Police are investigating the theft of a 9.8 carat diamond tennis bracelet from a local jewelry store. Police said the incident happened March 30th at Evans Jewelers at 320 E. Market Street.
Police said a suspect entered the business pretending to be shopping. They engaged an employee in conversation and then distracted the employee. While the employee was distracted they reportedly stole the tennis bracelet valued at $11,000.
Police have not ruled out a second person may have been involved. The incident has been assigned to a detective.
