Angier Man Dies In Traffic Accident

ANGIER – The State Highway Patrol has released the identity of a motorist who died in a single vehicle traffic accident in southwestern Johnston County. The collision was reported shortly before 5:00pm Wednesday in the 3900 block of Old Fairground Road.

Troopers said Douglas Bowden, age 66, of Angier was traveling northbound on Old Fairground Road in a BMW convertible when he ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree. Bowden died at the scene.

Authorities said speed was a contributing factor. Bowden was not wearing a seat belt.

  1. So sad, but why in God’s name did this MATURE, 66-yr old man not have a seat belt on in a CONVERTIBLE??!

  2. I live on this road….at least three times a day we have a wreak somewhere on Old Fairground Road…I have no idea what a possible solution could be other than SLOW THE HECK DOWN…..how many people are going to die because of speed…….its so sad….

    • It is so very sad! This gentleman I knew well. The kindest person who would go to orphanages and senior homes dressed as Santa to fill everyone with the spirit of the season! He will be greatly missed! Condolences to his family.
