Applications For Low Income Energy Assistance Program Being Accepted

Applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) will be taken now through March 31, 2021, or until the LIEAP funds are exhausted.

Applications for LIEAP that begin December 1, 2020 will be for households in the priority group of age 60 and above, and disabled persons receiving services from the Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS).   Those individuals and families with the lowest income and highest relative energy cost are potentially eligible and may apply beginning January 1, 2021 through March 31, 2021, or until LIEAP funds are exhausted.  (Please note that January 1, 2021 is a holiday; therefore, applications will resume on January 4, 2021.
Eligible households will not receive a LIEAP check as the payments will be made directly to the heating provider such as your power, gas, or fuel oil company.  All Households must make an application for LIEAP Heating Assistance as there will be no automatic approvals for Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) recipients.

Due to COVID-19, applications will be completed by telephone by calling 919-989-5300, you may apply online via the ePass Portal and from there you will print the application and mail to the Johnston County Department of Social Services, P.O. Box 911 Smithfield, NC  27577, or drop it in the Drop Box outside of Social Services Building at 714 North Street in Smithfield. Office hours are 8:00 am until 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
