Arrest Made In Bank Robbery

A suspect was arrested Friday a short  time after he allegedly robbed the First Citizens Bank located at 304 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Roseboro.

Around 9:30am a lone white male entered the bank and handed a note to the teller indicating that he had a bomb. The suspect made away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Captain Eric Pope with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said an observant bank teller was able to write down the license plate number on the suspects car.

Sampson County deputies alerted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office to go to an address near Wade where the car was registered.  As Cumberland County deputies were waiting at the address the suspect drove by and was stopped.

Jonathan Andrew Bruce, 23, of Wade was transported from Cumberland County to Sampson County where he was questioned by sheriff’s investigators and agents with the FBI.

Sheriff Jimmy Thornton stated, “The bank tellers, who were able to get the license plate and provide accurate suspect descriptions, were the key to solving this robbery as quickly as we did.  I would also like to thank the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in taking Bruce into custody.”
