Arrest Made In Catalytic Converter Thefts

Authorities have arrested a 28 year-old man they say is responsible for catalytic converter thefts from vehicles parked at two Johnston County businesses.

Joseph Lee Gurganus Jr. of Whispering Lane, Dudley in Wayne County is facing four felony charges including larceny of motor vehicle parts, larceny and injury to property.

On May 24th, two catalytic converters were reported stolen from box trucks at Lee Motors at 8391 US Highway 70 East, Princeton.

On June 9th, a catalytic converter was stolen from a box truck at Chemstation of Eastern NC located at 4241 US Highway 70 East, Smithfield. A 6×10 utility trailer was also taken from the business.

Gurganus was arrested June 10th by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and held on a $125,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail.
