Arrest Made In December Drive-By Shooting

A four month investigation into a drive by shooting at a northern Johnston County home has resulted in the arrest of one suspect. Authorities tell Johnston County Report that a second arrest is pending.

On December 11, 2020 around 4:40am, a 31 year-old woman said she was awaken at her home in the 14000 block of Highway 96 North by the sounds of what she thought were firecrackers. Upon further investigation she located a bullet hole in the entry door to the home.

When Johnston County deputies arrived on the scene they reportedly found three additional bullet holes on the exterior.

Michael Grant Newcomb, 24, of the 14000 block of Buffalo Road, Clayton was arrested April 12th on a felony conspiracy warrant. According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Newcomb was the alleged driver of the car involved. He was held on a $35,000 bond.

Authorities said the victim and one of the suspects had been involved in an ongoing dispute. No injuries were reported.


  1. Good job JCSO. Why would these kids do this is what I would like to know? I think the judge would have made a higher bail considering they could have killed someone.
