Arrest Made In Drug Overdose Death

SELMA – Police have arrested a Kenly woman for her alleged role in a drug overdose death. On June 22, 2021, Michelle Gurley was found by a family member deceased inside her Adams Street home. Police later determined the death of the 51 year-old woman was due to a controlled substance overdose.

On June 30th, Christy Lee Berry, 32, of Kenly was charged with possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance, sell of a controlled substance, and delivery of a controlled substance.

On September 13th, Berry was charged with felony death by distribution. Her bond was set at $360,000 on the combined charges.

Selma Police Chief W.M. Thomas said the death by distribution was made after detectives consulted with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office. Chief Thomas said the investigation into Gurley’s death was still ongoing.
