A 53 year-old Selma woman was stabbed to death inside her home Thursday night. Friday morning, Selma Police announced an arrest in the case.
At 11:14pm Thursday, Selma police were dispatched to the home of Joyce Helena Davis at 405 Godwin Street. Police Chief Billy Thomas said officers found Davis in the kitchen area suffering from multiple stab wounds from a knife. Davis died from her injuries.
The suspect, 28 year-old Deanna Simone McNeill, was found a short time later walking on N. Sellers Street and taken into custody. McNeill, who was living at the address with Davis, was charged with murder.
Chief Thomas said a motive remains under investigation but indicated there had been a history of verbal altercations between the suspect and the victim.
McNeill was booked into the Johnston County Jail early-Friday and was being held without bond.
This is the first homicide in the Town of Selma in 2019. There were two homicides in Selma in 2018.
