CLAYTON – A Benson man has been arrested after he allegedly defrauded a Clayton homeowner. The 76 year-old victim reported to authorities that he hired Joseph Drew Allan Cline of Rosa Circle, Benson to install flooring in his home.
After reportedly paying $2,125 up front to Mr. Cline for the materials and having him sign a written contract, the suspect cashed the check and never returned to complete the work. Following an investigation, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants for Cline’s arrest.
On July 15th around 11:00pm, Johnston County deputies responded to a disturbance call on New Creech Road near Selma. Officers said they located Cline and Christina Michelle Jones, 24, of Raleigh at the address. Both reportedly gave officers fictitious names.
Cline was arrested on the outstanding warrant for obtaining property by false pretense. He was also charged with giving fictitious information to an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he was served with two warrants for arrest for failing to appear in court on 2020 charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cline was held on an $80,000 secured bond.
Jones was charged with giving fictitious information to an officer. A background check determined she was wanted for felony probation violation. Jones was held in the Johnston County Jail on a $15,000 secured bond.
