Assault Suspect Captured Following Early Morning Manhunt

Four Oaks – A man wanted for violently assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend during a domestic dispute Tuesday night was captured Wednesday morning off Highway 210 outside of Four Oaks.

The incident began around 9:00pm Tuesday when Johnston County deputies were called to a home on Sheffield Drive off Highway 210 near Lassiter Road.  A 31 year-old woman reported that her ex-boyfriend, Charles Jarmall Battle of Raleigh, went to her home and an altercation ensued.

Battle allegedly grabbed the female victim by the neck and punched her in the face. He then reportedly kicked her in the stomach. Authorities said the victim was 4 months pregnant.

During the assault, the woman dropped her cell phone, wallet and car keys. Battle reportedly grabbed the items, ran to her car in the driveway then fled in the vehicle.  Battle reportedly returned in the stolen car overnight. When he saw deputies he ran into a wooded area.

Officers said Battle was arrested early Wednesday morning off Highway 210.

He was booked into the Johnston County Jail around 7:30am under a long list of charges and is being held without bond pending a first court appearance. The charges include felony battery of an unborn child, domestic assault, felony larceny, communicating threats, larceny of a motor vehicle, and breaking and entering a motor vehicle.

The female victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.  No information was released on the condition of the unborn child.
