Bail Increased For HVAC Repairman As More Charges Are Added

Bail has been increased for a self-employed HVAC repairman after more people have come forward saying they paid for work he never performed.

Gregory Lee Hines, 52, of Strickland’s Crossroads Road, Four Oaks remains in custody at the Johnston County Jail. As of Thursday, Hines is accused of defrauding or attempting to defraud 11 customers. He is charged with 9 felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense, one felony count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, and one misdemeanor charge of failure to work after being paid.

Hines is currently being held on an increased bond of $185,000.

The latest victim to come forward, a Four Oaks business owner, alleges he paid Hines $3,200 for HVAC work in August 2020 but never returned to make the repairs as promised. Hines is also accused of scamming $3,000 from an 87 year-old Four Oaks widow and $3,140 from a Clayton homeowner. Another victim reported they were defrauded out of $8,000.

Two people have contacted Johnston County Report claiming they were also defrauded by Mr. Hines but decided not to report the incidents to law enforcement.
