B&E Suspects Crash Getaway Car

Law enforcement officers were able to make a quick arrest following six car break-ins after the suspect wrecked his getaway car filled with stolen items minutes after allegedly committing the crimes.

Around 6:30am Monday, Johnston County deputies were dispatched to Polly Circle off Massengill Pond Road for a report of numerous car break-ins.  Deputies arrived and discovered six victims had their cars broken into.  While officers were on the scene taking reports from the victims, other deputies and troopers with the NC Highway Patrol were responding to a single vehicle accident on Highway 242 South of Benson near Dragstrip Road.

The driver, 35 year-old Clemon Lee Williams III of Dakota Lane, Dunn was still at the scene of the accident. A passenger had fled before officers had arrived.

A sheriff’s narcotics K-9 alerted on the wrecked car. Prescription pills and a firearm were reportedly found in the vehicle along with the items that were just being reported stolen in the car break-ins about 14 miles away.

Deputies charged Williams with 18 criminal offenses including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance, and several counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny  Williams was also charged by the NC Highway Patrol with driving while impaired. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $105,000 bond.

Warrants have been obtained for the passenger who left the scene. Once located, 30 year-old Benjamin Elijah Chavez of Dakota Lane, Dunn will face felony charges.
