A Benson man was arrested around 7:00pm Tuesday after deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic incident. Officers went to an address in the 600 block of Massengill Pond Road, Angier for a report Jason Ferrell Hudson, 44, of Tefler Lane, Benson was staying in an RV on the property and there was a dispute over rent with the female property owner.
While an officer was on the scene, Hudson and the victim began arguing over the ownership of hay in a horse barn. Hudson allegedly walked out of sight of the deputy and within moments the officer saw smoke coming from the barn. Hudson reportedly had set the hay on fire. The blaze then spread to the barn.
The West Johnston Fire Department responded and extinguished the small fire. Damage was estimated at $60 to the hay and $500 to the horse barn.
Hudson was charged with a felony count of burning a building.
