Benson Physician Awards Scholarships To Six Area Students

BENSON – Dr. Pankaj K. Vyas, owner of Eastern Carolina Medical Center, presented scholarships to six recent high school graduates who plan to enter the health care profession.

Triton, Midway and South Johnston high school graduates were awarded Dr. Pankaj K. Vyas Healthcare Scholarships in the amount of $3,500 for a four-year college or university and $1,500 for a community college.

Scholarship recipients include:

From Triton High School — Madison Howlett and Gabrielle Artis
From Midway High School — Marley Ray and Scottlin Westbrook
From South Johnston High School — Ava Lewis and Gracie Moore

During his 35-plus years in practice in Benson, Vyas has been instrumental in countless community projects and has provided resources to meet the needs of many organizations.

“He is excited about being able to invest in future medical professionals and sends congratulations to the winners,” said Lori Capps, ECMC financial controller, in a press release.
