An alert neighbor is being credited with helping Johnston County deputies capture two burglary suspects before they could flee from the scene.
Around 5:30pm Wednesday, deputies received a report of a burglary in progress in the 3900 block of Highway 96 South.
Officers arrived on the scene and caught the suspects in the front yard attempting to flee. A stolen 9mm handgun was found a few feet away.
Erick Damon Phillips, 27, and Kyree Demetrius Williams, both of Warsaw, NC were arrested at the scene. They had reportedly taken jewelry from the home but were caught in the front yard of the residence by responding deputies before they could flee. The items were recovered.
Both Duplin County men were charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny, conspiracy, and possession of a stolen firearm.
Damage to an entry door to the home was estimated at $250.
