Burglary Not Random, Police Say

Police made a quick arrest in a South Smithfield burglary on New Year’s Eve.

Around 5:43am Monday, Smithfield Police responded to a burglary that had just occurred in the 2200 block of Kay Drive, off S. Brightleaf Boulevard.

Police Captain R. Sheppard said 34 year-old Lavar Leroy Jackson of Sanford broke into the home and stole his wife’s cell phone and her boyfriend’s TV and laptop.

Jackson fled before police arrived but was located 30 minutes later in a Chevy Camaro on S. Brightleaf Boulevard near Holding Street. Police stopped the car and arrested Jackson and recovered the stolen items valued at $1,178.

Jackson was charged with first degree burglary and larceny.  He was transported to the Johnston County Jail where his bail was placed at $60,000.
