Burglary Suspect Arrested Wearing Victim’s Stolen Shirt, Flip Flops

BENSON – A 75 year-old Benson woman told authorities she returned home and found a burglar inside her residence.  The victim arrived at her Helms-Dogwood Road home around 7:30pm Monday and was startled to find a female intruder inside.  The suspect fled out the door wearing the victim’s shirt embroidered with her name plus her flip flops.

The victim called 911 and began following the woman as she walked down Helms-Dogwood Road.  Deputies arrived quickly and took 32 year-old Melissa Dawn Tincher of Hillsboro, West Virginia into custody.  Authorities said they located a prescription pill bottle Tincher had also stolen from the address.

While being booked into the Johnston County Jail, jailors reportedly found suspected heroin and 2-1/2 prescription pills Tincher had concealed.

Tincher was charged with breaking and entering, felony larceny, possession of heroin and possession of a controlled substance in jail. She was held on a $45,000 secured bond.

Deputies said the victim and suspect did not know one another.
