A burglary suspect apparently didn’t expect the property owner to show up at a home Sunday afternoon.
The owner of a vacant home on Highway 42 about three miles west of Clayton stopped by the property to make sure everything was ok. He spotted a truck and trailer backed up to a barn behind the home and called Johnston County deputies.
Officers arrived on the scene and spotted a man fleeing into a wooded area behind the home.
The suspect, 32 year-old Donald Ross Evans of Forehand Road NE, Pikeville, was quickly detained by deputies.
Evans was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony possession of burglary tools, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. He was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
