Burglary Suspects Claimed They Were “Making Out”

Two people were allegedly caught breaking into a storage barn Monday near the Johnston-Wayne County line.

Around 5:40am, Johnston County deputies received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a barn on Boyette Pond Road, off Hickory Crossroads Road.

When officers arrived on the scene the truck tried to leave but a deputy used his patrol car to block the path. Deputies allegedly found several items had been removed from the barn and placed on the ground.  A bolt cutter and two pry bars were reportedly found behind the seat of their truck.

Authorities said the female told an officer the couple was “making out” and “hanging out”.

Martha Kay Radford, 34, of Oliver Road, Kenly and Edgar Wayne Warren, 38, of Stevens Chapel Road, Smithfield were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of burglary tools.  Radford was also charged with possession of methamphetamine after two small baggies of suspected meth were allegedly found in her possession.  Deputies also seized a digital scale and glass smoking pipe.

Warren was held under a $50,000 bond. Radford was placed in jail under a $75,000 bond.
